OVERVIEW
Research development at St. Vincent Charity Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program is an integral part of clinical training and advancement.

REQUIREMENTS
Medical research during the three-year residency period is mandatory. The following are the program’s requirement:
  1. Minimum of one completed and approved written research project by the end of the residency training
  2. Oral presentation of the research during the annual Resident’s Research Day
  3. Poster/Oral presentation to local or national meetings or publication of research work

RESEARCH SUPPORT
The program strives to provide a nurturing environment to equip our residents with the necessary tools to embark on their respective research endeavors. Among the program’s initiative to support our residents in their research undertakings include:

1. Research Lecture Series
Strategically planned topics on study design, statistics, literature search, use of evidence-based medicine and even the basic foundations on critical appraisal of journals or published articles are presented throughout the year during our noon conferences.

2. Comprehensive Literature Database
Our library is accessible 24/7 and is equipped with the latest journals. Online access to journals is always available.  Special requests for difficult-to-obtain journals are facilitated by our on-site librarian.

3. Research Mentorship Program
Quarterly meeting with the program’s Research Advisory Committee provides invaluable individualized feedback and suggestions regarding the resident’s research work. This initiative is undertaken as early as the first year of residency.

4. Presentation in Local and National Meetings
Educational stipends/allowance is provided by the program to support the actual presentation of the resident’s research in various local and national meetings as well as attendance to other academic-related activities (eg. CME, etc)

ANNUAL RESIDENT RESEARCH DAY
This annual event showcases different researches undertaken by the residents. Some areas of interest include Quality of Care, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
